Alex Okulski is a senior managing director of ARA, A Newmark Company. Mr. Okulski maintains offices in Raleigh-Durham and Charleston where he focuses on investment sales and capital markets transactions in rapidly growing coastal markets such as Charleston, SC, and Wilmington, NC, while bolstering service throughout all Carolinas markets. With more than 10 years of experience and over $1.6 billion in multihousing transactions closed, Mr. Okulski will leverage extensive relationships and investment sales/capital markets experience across North Carolina, South Carolina and Coastal Georgia.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Okulski worked for Walker & Dunlop Investment Sales where he opened the firm’s Carolinas office in 2013. Previously, he was part of the loan origination team for Prudential Mortgage Capital Company’s Mid-Atlantic region, working with General Account, CMBS, and Agency capital sources. Before that, Mr. Okulski served as an asset manager for Greystar in Charleston where he oversaw a portfolio of multihousing communities across the Carolinas.

Mr. Okulski is a graduate of Davidson College, where he was a four-year starter and team captain for the varsity tennis team. He also attended the University of North Carolina’s Kenan Flagler Business School where he graduated with a concentration in real estate.

John Heimburger is an executive managing director of ARA, A Newmark Company, acquired in December 2014 by BGC Partners Inc. and now a part of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.

Located in ARA Newmark’s Charlotte office, he is responsible for multifamily brokerage and advisory services throughout the Carolinas. Since joining ARA Newmark in 2006, Mr. Heimburger has been meaningfully involved in over $6 billion of multihousing investment sales throughout North and South Carolina totaling over 70,000 apartment units. He has worked with a broad range of clients in the Carolinas including merchant builders, REITs, fund advisers, life insurance companies, family offices and a host of syndicated private capital groups. He has also executed land sales and equity placement transactions with both new construction and existing redevelopment opportunities for developers and value add groups.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Heimburger worked for Laureate Capital (now Grandbridge Real Estate Capital) as a financial analyst for the company's asset management group overseeing risk on a portfolio of loans sourced through Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and several life insurance companies.

Mr. Heimburger attended Davidson College where he received his undergraduate degree with majors in Economics and Classical Civilization; he is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council.

Dean Smith - Vice Chairman

Dean Smith is vice chairman of ARA, A Newmark Company’s Carolinas operation where he directs the team’s business development activity and day-to-day operations. A founding partner of ARA prior to the company’s acquisition, Mr. Smith has led or been meaningfully involved in more than $10 billion in multifamily brokerage sales since 2000. His comprehensive focus on every part of the deal cycle, from business development, land sales, equity and debt placement, existing property sales to managing negotiations and due diligence through closing, has contributed to a deep and wide range of transaction experience.

Before joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Smith spent three years at Highwoods Properties, a publicly traded REIT, where he was responsible for the leasing and development of the Piedmont Triad portfolio consisting of more than nine million square feet of office and industrial product.

Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology where he was a two-time All-ACC player on the University’s golf team. Mr. Smith is an active member of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the Greater Charlotte Apartment Association. He is also a founding Partner and Director of the ARA Carolinas Charitable Trust and currently sits on the Benefactors Society Board for the University of Virginia.

Located in ARA Newmark’s Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina office, he is responsible for multifamily brokerage throughout the Carolinas. Since joining ARA Newmark in 2007, Mr. Wood has been involved in over $6 billion of multifamily investment sales throughout North and South Carolina totaling over 70,000 apartment units. He has worked with a broad range of clients in the Carolinas including REITs, advisors, insurance companies, developers, special servicers, and a host of private capital groups. Mr. Wood has also executed many equity placement transactions with both new construction and existing redevelopment opportunities for developers and value add groups.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Wood worked in Houston, Texas with Brookfield Properties as a financial analyst for the company's leasing, development, and acquisition of high-rise office properties.

Mr. Wood received his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University with an emphasis on International Business and Spanish. He then went on to earn his MBA in International Business from Texas Christian University, where he studied one year in Forth Worth, Texas and an additional year in Puebla, Mexico.

Jason Kon is a director for ARA, A Newmark Company, acquired in December 2014 by BGC Partners, Inc. and now a part of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.

Located in ARA Newmark’s Charlotte Office, Mr. Kon is responsible for multifamily brokerage and advisory services throughout the Carolinas. He focuses on the disposition of non-institutional assets, client development, pricing strategies, as well as the negotiation and closing of transactions.

Prior to joining the Carolinas brokerage team, Mr. Kon served as a senior analyst and transaction manager for ARA Newmark where he underwrote more than $12 billion in multifamily assets and assisted ARA Newmark brokers in the sale of nearly $3 billion in multifamily assets.

Before joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Kon worked for PRG Real Estate Management in their Manager-In-Training program where he gained experience in all aspects of apartment operations.

Mr. Kon graduated from Wake forest University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.

Located in ARA Newmark’s Raleigh-Durham Office, he is responsible for multifamily brokerage and advisory services throughout the Carolinas. Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Munroe worked for Hawthorne Residential Partners where he was an investment analyst overseeing all underwriting for the company’s existing portfolio and their new acquisitions. Before that, Mr. Munroe worked at Clarion Partners in Washington D.C. as a financial analyst where he became very familiar with the underwriting of all property types including industrial, multifamily, office and retail.

Mr. Munroe holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Wake Forest University and a Bachelor of Science degree in business management with a concentration in finance from NC State University.

Brenna Campbell is a senior financial analyst for the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham offices of ARA, A Newmark Company, where she is responsible for the financial analysis and due diligence of multifamily assets including the research of economic drivers, underwriting and performance benchmarking. Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Ms. Campbell worked with Colliers International’s East Region Multifamily Advisory Group in the Raleigh office as a senior marketing coordinator/financial analyst where she gained experience and industry knowledge in market research and underwriting processes by collaborating with brokers on transactions throughout the Southeast.

Ms. Campbell graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a focus in real estate and finance.

Andrew Howe is a financial analyst for ARA, A Newmark Company where he is responsible for market research, underwriting, and financial analysis for projects in the Carolinas region. Cassandra Rusnak is marketing manager for the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham offices of ARA, A Newmark Company where her responsibilities include the structuring and implementation of marketing strategies as well as in-house design and production of multimedia presentations, offering documents and brochures. Ms. Rusnak is also responsible for the management of the marketing, finance and graphic teams which involves managing the production, timelines and schedules of all active marketing assignments; implementation of marketing strategies; management of third party vendors and consultants; management of due diligence, closing preparation and documentation and general oversight of brokerage transactions. Additionally, Ms. Rusnak serves as a liaison between the local brokers and their clients.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark in 2005, Ms. Rusnak led a team in the Global Funds department at Wachovia Bank where she gained valuable leadership skills while implementing international monies exchange.

Ms. Rusnak graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. She obtained her real estate license in 2009.

Meghan Darst - Senior Marketing Coordinator

Meghan Darst is senior marketing coordinator for the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham offices of ARA, A Newmark Company where she contributes to all aspects of the marketing program while also providing administrative assistance to senior brokers and other operational support personnel. Ms. Darst works closely with the marketing manager to ensure deadlines are achieved and innovative tools are implemented.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark and while a student, Ms. Darst completed two summer internships; one as a marketing and graphic design intern with Blackboard-Transact and another with Appalachian Voices where she was later hired as a part-time graphic artist. She also worked as a freelance graphic design artist for various organizations.

Ms. Darst graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in graphic arts and imaging technology and a minor in marketing.

Becky Scheible - Marketing Coordinator

Becky Scheible is a marketing coordinator for the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham offices of ARA, A Newmark Company where she is responsible for marketing project deliverables and designing marketing materials, as well as providing additional support for the marketing team.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark and while a student, Ms. Scheible managed a design team as an art director in the production of a start-up entertainment magazine. She also worked as a marketing intern for Aramark on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.

Ms. Scheible graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in media and journalism, specializing in public relations, and a second major in political science.

Vickey Goad - Controller

Vickey Goad has worked as controller for the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham offices of ARA, A Newmark Company since June of 2005. In this role, she is responsible for maintaining the financial, personnel, administrative and general corporate responsibilities of the company and her duties provide detailed support for the overall day-to-day business operations. Ms. Goad is also the executive administrator for the ARA Newmark-Charlotte Charitable Foundation. For 15 years, she has owned her own consulting company assisting small businesses with their accounting and financial practices, personnel matters and other general business practices.  

Ms. Goad has a Bachelors Degree in Business Education, as well as a Masters Degree from Marshall University.
