Curtis Gardner - Vice Chairman

Through his extensive network of contacts within the multifamily industry, Curtis plays a vital role in client development for ARA, A Newmark Company Pacific. He is a member of NMHC, the Urban Land Institute, and is a graduate of the University of Utah with a degree in political science.

Mark Leary - Executive Managing Director

Since 1994, Mark Leary has focused exclusively on the disposition and acquisition of multifamily assets located in Northern California. In that time, he closed in excess of $3.5 billion in transactions for more than 30,000 units. Mark specializes in the sale of large institutional multifamily assets as well as land for development of new multifamily projects and his geographic market expertise is comprised of the Bay Area, Sacramento and the Central Valley markets. He has sold all types of multifamily assets ranging from condominium conversions, distressed vacant assets, add-value renovation opportunities, and newly built core Class “A” product.  He has been involved in over 200 multifamily transactions, since his first sale of a 10 unit boarded up REO for American Savings. Mark is a fifth generation Californian and a third generation real estate broker. He is a member of NMHC and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Colorado. 

Craig Chiappone - Executive Managing Director

Craig Chiappone has 14 years of experience specializing in the sale of apartment properties throughout in California. In that time, Craig has personally generated and closed over 150 transactions for a cumulative of over 7,000 units and $1.4 billion in transaction volume. Though the majority of Craig’s clients are private investors, he has represented numerous institutional clients. Craig has extensive experience with the most complex of transactions and has several long-standing clients who exclusively utilize his services. Craig began his career at a leading Bay Area brokerage firm where he received numerous accolades and was consistently one of the firm’s top producers. He is an active owner and manager of apartment properties throughout the Bay Area and other western states. This involvement in all aspects of apartments translates into a broader knowledge base Craig brings to his multi-family advisory services.

Craig was raised in the Bay Area and is a graduate of the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in Italian language.

John McCulloch - Executive Managing Director

John McCulloch, executive managing director, has been a multifamily investment specialist since 2002. During this time he has brokered disposition transactions totaling in excess of $2.8 billion. Prior to joining ARA, A Newmark Company, John was a Vice President with a leading San Francisco-based multifamily brokerage firm. In this capacity he advised a blue-chip roster of institutional clients, in partnership with Curtis Gardner, on an extensive range of apartment, land and condominium conversion transactions. Additionally, he established the firm's regional office in Los Angeles and successfully broadened the firm's service and geographic reach into Southern California. John has background that includes real estate asset management, private equity investment and industrial development. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College.

Phill Boersma - Executive Managing Director

Since 2001, Phill Boersma has specialized in sale of multifamily buildings in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. As the executive managing director of San Francisco Sales, Mr. Boersma heads up ARA, A Newmark Company's San Francisco Apartment Group and has personally closed over 100 transaction totaling over $225 Million in total sales volume. Possessing an intimate knowledge of the city of San Francisco, construction, financing, and rent control laws makes Phill an extremely valuable asset in acquiring or selling local investment properties. His track record includes a listing to closing ratio of over 95%, strong client loyalty, and a very high referral rate. Phill has proven his ability to solve problems and close transactions as can be seen by his history of selling apartment buildings, tic conversion projects, portfolio sales, add-value and mixed-use properties. Phill holds a Bachelor of Art in both Psychology and Art. He is an active broker, apartment owner, and member of the Board of Realtors, the San Francisco Apartment Association, and the Income Property Marketing Group.

Mike Colhoun - Senior Managing Director

Specializing in the disposition of apartment properties, Mike Colhoun brings seven years of real estate sales experience and three years of real estate development & entitlement experience to ARA, A Newmark Company. His specialties include value add multifamily, market rate multifamily, rent controlled markets, and vacant land. Mike has been intimately involved in the disposition of various multifamily assets and portfolios. His responsibilities include client development, marketing and pricing strategies, conducting property tours and managing the due diligence and escrow process for his listings.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark Pacific, Mike was with Arroyo & Coates for two years. While there he worked on stabilized assets and distressed assets, all of which were multifamily. Prior to that Mike worked with Sequoia Land investments as a project manager for their ground up development and entitlement projects. This wide range of evaluating properties has proved valuable while assisting his clients. Mike is a licensed broker in California and possesses a bachelors degree from the University of Colorado in economics. 

Nate Oleson - Managing Director

Nate Oleson, managing director, has closed roughly 4,000 units representing over $500,000,000 in sales volume since 2004. His primary focus is on private real estate owners in the Sacramento apartment market and distressed assets throughout Northern California. He is a proven performer and has built a strong reputation with his clients by maximizing value and remaining committed throughout the entire transaction process. In addition to his sales experience, Nate also brings asset management experience to the ARA, A Newmark Company. Nate is a graduate of Stanford University and is a licensed real estate salesman in California.

Matthew C. Sheridan - Director

Matthew C. Sheridan is director and specializes in San Francisco apartment building sales. He joined ARA, A Newmark Company in 2012 after 20 years of working in multi-family housing in San Francisco. He also serves as publisher of the SF Apartment Magazine, a monthly trade journal that addresses the management, ownership and sales of apartment buildings in San Francisco. He obtained his California real estate license in 2002.

Mr. Sheridan is a graduate of the University of Oregon and received a B.A. in political science. After working in politics in San Francisco, he served for several years as deputy director of the San Francisco Apartment Association, a nonprofit trade association representing landlords. In 1997, he started Black Point Press, a boutique publishing house that produces trade magazines for the multi-family housing market.

Matthew served on the San Francisco Civil Grand Jury for a year investigating and reporting on malfeasance in city government. He was an officer and governor for many years at the Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club.

He is active member of the San Francisco Apartment Association, Coalition for Better Housing, San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association and the San Francisco Housing Action Coalition.

He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two children in the Richmond District.  An active parent at both his children’s schools (Katherine Delmar Burke School and Pacific Primary Preschool), he has chaired book fairs, served as room parent, and lately, running up and down soccer fields as a coach of his daughter’s team.

Marc Andenmatten - Director

Marc Andenmatten joined ARA Newmark in 2013 to further expand the firm’s multifamily platform in Sacramento and the Central Valley. His focus is to provide high level advisory services to his clients with an emphasis on middle-market transactions and he has closed over 1,000 units representing over $75,000,000 in sales volume since 2014. Mr. Andenmatten has extensive experience in garden-style apartment buildings specifically.

Mr. Andenmatten’s ability to understand the specific needs of his clients allows him to deliver a customized solution ensuring a successful outcome for all parties involved in a transaction. He has earned a reputation for his strong work ethic and ability to proactively source proprietary opportunities, and he is knowledgeable in all facets of a sales transaction, including: financial analysis, underwriting, operating budget analysis, location and submarket research, due diligence review and contract negotiations.

Mr. Andenmatten was born and raised in Switzerland and has family roots in the East Bay Area. He graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's degree in international studies, is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and is an avid golfer.

Rob LeDoux - Director of Investment Analysis

Rob LeDoux, director of investment analysis, joined ARA, A Newmark Company in December of 2014 bringing over five years of commercial real estate experience. In his current position, Mr. LeDoux is responsible for financial analysis, market research, pricing strategy, marketing and client development. Prior to joining ARA Newmark, he worked as a financial analyst with Pacific Urban Residential in their Palo Alto office. Before that, he worked with the Net Lease Investment Services group and the multifamily group for Cassidy Turley (now Cushman & Wakefield) in San Francisco.

Mr. LeDoux is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor’s Degree in political economy, and has been a licensed real estate salesman in the state of California for 10 years.

Reid Mayer - Transaction Manager

Reid Mayer, transaction manager, joined ARA, A Newmark Company in April of 2014 bringing with him over five years of commercial real estate experience. In his current position, Mr. Mayer is responsible for marketing, due diligence, market research, property tours and client development. Prior to joining ARA Newmark, he worked as a financial analyst at Wells Fargo in their San Francisco commercial real estate group.

Mr. Mayer is a graduate of Trinity College in Connecticut, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in economics. Outside of the office, he can usually be found in the mountains kayaking, climbing or diving.

Evan McCauley - Senior Graphic Designer

Evan McCauley, is a senior graphic designer for ARA, A Newmark Company’s Pacific team where his primary responsibilities include strategizing and designing offering memorandums, presentations and other marketing materials; creating websites and e-blasts; coordinating with and guiding photographers and printers; editing the team’s written content and working with the team to formulate ideas and plans for projects, as well as the company’s future direction.

A graphic designer for 14 years, Mr. McCauley brings vast graphic and editorial expertise to ARA Newmark. He has worked in the medical, pharmaceutical, transportation, retail and nonprofit sectors, however, most of his work has been in publishing, where he has served as chief designer for over 20 magazine titles and other periodicals. Mr. McCauley began his professional journey as a newspaper editor and has held other senior editorial positions throughout his career.

A graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, Mr. McCauley also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He is an avid musician, artist and outdoorsman.


Ryan Denman - Investment Analyst

Ryan Denman joined ARA, A Newmark Company to further expand the firm’s multifamily investment sales operations in Northern California. He brings to ARA Newmark extensive experience analysing opportunistic and distressed real estate assets as well as debt investments. Mr. Denman’s focus is to provide tailored advisory services to clients working on middle-market transactions.

Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Denman was with Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) for seven years where he was responsible for analytics, data and trade management across mortgage and derivative products.
Mr. Denman studied real estate finance at the University of Southern California and is an active member of the Urban Land Institute’s Young Leaders Group.


Greg Aspell - Financial Analyst

Greg Aspell joins ARA, A Newmark Company as a financial analyst with over three years of commercial real estate experience. In this role, Mr. Aspell is responsible for market research, underwriting, data analysis, marketing and investment strategy, focusing exclusively on the disposition of institutional properties, typically within the Bay Area and Sacramento. Prior to joining ARA Newmark, Mr. Aspell worked as an associate in Dallas at Wingert Real Estate where he specialized in tenant representation with a focus on office properties.

Mr. Aspell received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. He is actively pursuing his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation.
